Situated on a tranquil location in a upmarket area with condominiums and a lively, cozy neighborhood of other boat owners, you are immediately struck by the light, solidity and sense of space on entering the houseboat.
The old wheelhouse has been extended to function as a dining kitchen with panoramic views – a room you only leave once the sun goes down when the cozy wood-burner in the living room below beckons.
Easily accessible and optically connected with the modern fully equipped kitchen and the deep living room, the wheel-house further includes doors that completely open onto the sunny south-facing rear-deck. Outside next to where this classic ship is moored there is another big deck with massive teak table and benches where one can picnic, enjoy a cup of morning coffee, but also have complete al fresco dinner parties in spring and summer.
The kitchen is fully built in and includes a dishwasher, exhaust fan, oven, microwave and six hob stove with wok-burner. Pleasantly connected with the dining room in the wheel house by a set of stairs, it is easy to cook and entertain guests simultaneously, whilst someone can play the piano in the background.
Behind the piano the living room begins. A big sofa, flat screen TV and the wood-burner will ensure pleasant evenings. Prefer to curl up with a good book? The skylight windows ensure that the living is light, whilst the light design flooring makes this home pleasant on even the darkest northern European days.
From beside the kitchen a hallway leads to the bedroom. From this hall there is a separate toilet, the laundry room, and the bathroom.
The bathroom includes a bath, industrial style sink, twin shower and plenty of ventilation, including two picturesque portholes.
As a final touch, a walk-in closet is situated beside the bedroom.
Freely situated by the Jordaan about seven minutes walk from the Haarlemmerdijk – one of Amsterdam’s best shopping streets – and only ten minutes from Amsterdam Central Station, this ship is moored so that one does not notice anything but the most gentle water movement, on a street with minimal residential traffic, yet amongst a community of like-minded houseboat owners.
A short walk from one of Amsterdam’s coolest cinemas, and an entire host of fashionable cafes, upmarket restaurants and trendy specialty shops, not to mention a great organic farmer’s market and a number of supermarkets, including a health food store, the Dockland Central is more than a place to stay, but a unique experience that will stay with you.
